Talbot Thrive

A non-profit dedicated to promoting healthy and safe outdoor mobility for everyone living, working and visiting Talbot County, Maryland.

We promote healthy and safe outdoor mobility for everyone living, working and visiting our quiet corner of Maryland. We are members of the community and we seek to work collaboratively with community partners and elected officials and to ensure people can walk, run and cycle safely for any trip purpose. Our work is intentional and inclusive.

Organizational Goals

  • Infrastructure Advocacy – We push local and state governments to implement lower speed limits, create more linear parks & paths, and install better sidewalk and crosswalks.
  • Community Workshops and Events – We organize events and workshops to encourage more active participation in biking, running, walking and scooting.  We partner with other community groups to encourage more 5ks and “couch to running” programs for runners and walkers.
  • Educational Campaigns –  We launch public awareness campaigns about the environmental and health benefits of alternative transportation.
  • Collaborations with Schools and Community Groups – We partner with local community groups and schools to promote walking or biking, provide educational resources to kids, parents and individuals about the benefits of sustainable transportation.

What Are We Working on?

The Oyster Trail

Imagine a linear park/trail from Easton to Oxford which could serve to connect commercial, historic and cultural amenities along a shared use path accommodating walkers, joggers and bicyclists of all ages and fitness levels? If this project comes to life, it will be possible to ride the entire 8 mile route from Oxford to Easton on a safe and beautiful wooded greenway that would create a safe path for users reach key points of interest along a long-abandoned rail bed which served as the connector between our waterfront communities.

The Frederick Douglass Rail Trail

The Frederick Douglass Rail Trail will repurpose the former Pennsylvania Railroad and Maryland & Delaware Railroad track as a 10-foot wide shared use path. The proposed route begins just north of the town of Queen Anne, in Queen Anne’s County and ends at the former rail line intersection with Black Dog Alley just north of Easton. Eventually the hope is to connect it with the existing rail trail systems throughout the Eastern Shore and Delaware.
