Bringing a Cycling Without Age Program to Talbot County

There’s something about riding a bike that brings back the joy and freedom of childhood. But what happens when age or mobility challenges make it difficult to ride? Cycling Without Age is a global movement that helps seniors and those with limited mobility experience the simple joy of a bike ride again—this time as passengers on specially designed trishaws, piloted by local volunteers.
Talbot Thrive is working to bring a Cycling Without Age program to Talbot County, creating opportunities for seniors to feel the wind in their hair and connect with the community in a meaningful way. To spark local interest, we hosted a screening of the inspiring documentary Cycling Without Age in December. This film follows retired teacher John Seigel-Boettner and his team of volunteers as they take seniors on trishaw rides along the beach and through the woods, rekindling a sense of adventure and connection to the outdoors. The film beautifully captures the power of these shared rides to foster friendships, bridge generations, and bring joy to those who are often isolated indoors.
Now, we’re asking for your help to make this vision a reality in Talbot County! Whether you’re interested in volunteering as a trishaw pilot, helping with fundraising, or supporting the effort in another way, we’d love for you to get involved.
Sandy Bishop, founder of the Cycling Without Age program in Anne Arundel County, and Heather Grant, Executive Director of Talbot Thrive, are leading the charge to bring this initiative to our community. If you’re passionate about supporting seniors, outdoor recreation, or simply spreading joy, we invite you to join us in building this program.
